You will meet your guide at 9:00 AM at your hotel, board a comfortable off-road vehicle, and set out from Almaty to Altyn-Emel National Park. Upon arrival, we'll take a walk to the Singing Dune and enjoy lunch by a nearby stream. After exploring the dune, we'll head to the Aktau Mountains to establish a camp for an overnight stay.

The Singing Dune, standing at a height of 120 meters (394 ft) and stretching about 3 km (1.9 mi), is nestled in one of the corners of Altyn-Emel National Park. Composed of fine, pure sand, this sandy hill "sings" when the wind blows, producing a sound reminiscent of organ music. Before a sandy storm, the dune echoes like a drum. From its summit, you can enjoy a panorama of the surroundings. To the south, a thin strip of the Ili River unfolds alongside the purple peaks of Sogety and Boguty mountains. The westward view is framed by the steep slope of the Big Kalkan Mountain, while the east is marked by the Small Kalkan. To the north, a violet-blue ridge marks the Dzungarian Alatau Mountains.
After breakfast, we will go for a walk to explore the Aktau Mountains, renowned for their picturesque and distinctive landscapes. As evening falls, we'll return to the camp for dinner and overnight rest.

The Aktau Mountains stand out as one of the most picturesque and unique sites in the national park. These mountains are the remnants of an ancient sea that once filled the Ili River basin. As the sea receded, it revealed layers of rocks, displaying a spectrum of colors from green and red at the base to grey and white at the summit. The sedimentary deposits reach a height of 1000 meters (3280 ft).
The chalk mountains of Aktau are a significant paleontological deposit. The area contains remains of ancient animals dating back 25-30 million years. Among the discoveries are remnants of giant rhinos, crocodiles, and turtles, along with imprints of ancient plants and tree trunks.
After breakfast and the dismantling of the camp, we will head to another fascinating destination – the Katutau Mountains. After exploring the mountains, we'll continue our drive to the ash-tree grove at Temirlik River, and then proceed to Charyn Canyon. There, we will establish a camp, have dinner, and rest.

Formed by volcanic activity thousands of years ago, the Katutau Mountains showcase bomb-ash and lava flows. The result is a peculiar and beautiful environment.
Situated in the lower reaches of the Charyn River, the Temirlik Canyon is home to a unique grove of relict Sogdian ash-trees. Legend has it that five million years ago, a seed of the Sogdian ash-tree was carried here by the wind. For millions of years, with changes in terrain and climate, the ash-tree has endured. In 1964, the grove received the designation of a natural monument.
In the morning, we'll take a stroll around the canyon before we begin our journey back to Almaty. Along the way, we'll stop for lunch at a cafe or have a picnic. The anticipated arrival time in Almaty is around 7:00 PM.

Charyn Canyon bears a resemblance to the Grand Canyon in the USA, albeit on a smaller scale. The steep canyon slopes reach heights of 150-300 meters (500-1000 ft), and what truly stands out is the remarkable dissection of the terrain – a dense, chaotic network of numerous ravines. Particularly captivating is the Valley of Castles, where the wind and water have sculpted walls resembling castles and towers. This valley showcases nature's unique architectural prowess, crafting magnificent structures over millions of years. Walking amid these towers and columns, you can marvel at the wild imagination of nature for hours.
