Talgar Pass

Big Talgar Pass sits at an altitude of 3,167 meters (10380 ft) and is the more popular of the two, thanks to its proximity to the Shymbulak Ski Resort. One can reach the pass via the cable car from the Medeu Skating Rink. It lies between the peaks of Shkolnik, Shymbulachka, and Chkalov.

Small Talgar Pass is located at an altitude of 2,767 meters (9080vft), situated to the east of Big Talgar Pass.

Left Talgar Gorge

The Left Talgar Gorge stretches for several dozen kilometers. In the lower reaches of the gorge, you can see valleys covered with a carpet of flowers and mountain slopes covered with Tien Shan spruce. In the upper reaches, the landscape changes: forests give way to alpine meadows, and even higher up, the tundra begins. Left Talgar is rightfully considered the most beautiful gorge near Almaty.

Tourists Pass

The Tourists Pass, situated at an altitude of 4,039 meters (13250 ft), rivals the height of many mountain peaks. The pass serves as a key point on the route from the Left Talgar Gorge to the upper reaches of the Kyzylsay and Tourist rivers, continuing into the Big Almaty Gorge. Additionally, it is the starting point for mountaineering routes to Soviet Alpinists Peak, Young Guard Peak, and Pogrebetsky Peak.

Big Almaty Lake

Big Almaty Lake, situated at an altitude of 2,510 meters (8235 ft), resembles a vast bowl filled with bluish-green water. It is believed to have formed over 2,000 years ago as a result of a powerful earthquake, which created a crevice that filled with water from the riverbed. This natural phenomenon gave Kazakhstan one of its most stunning landmarks. Approaching the lake is prohibited as it is a strategic site and a source of drinking water for Almaty. However, visitors can admire its beauty from an observation point.

Shukur Gorge

Shukur Gorge lies between Ozyornoye and Kumbelsu gorges. It's a favorite among hikers for both day trips and longer journeys, offering access to Soviet Peak and connecting to neighboring gorges like Kumbelsu and Tuyuksu. The gorge is renowned for the picturesque Moon Glade, a popular spot among locals and visitors to Almaty. A small waterfall in the gorge provides a refreshing dip after a hike on a hot summer day, offering revitalizing mountain ice-cold water. Shukur Gorge also serves as a gateway to the nearby Ozyornoye Gorge, home to the stunning Big Almaty Lake.
