The name of the Kimasar Gorge, translated from Kazakh, means "who will pass." However, the residents of Almaty often call it Commissar Gorge. In Russian, the term "Commissar" denotes a political and administrative official from the USSR era. Rumor has it that Communist commissars visited the gorge, indulging in moments of relaxation with vodka and caviar.
