Upon meeting your guide at the hotel and boarding a comfortable vehicle, you will be transported to the Medeu Tract, home to the Medeu Skating Rink.
When you arrive in Almaty, it's impossible to resist a visit to one of the city's key attractions – the Medeu Tract nestled in the foothills of the Ile Alatau Mountains. This area captivates tourists with its picturesque landscapes, vast high-mountain plateaus, and mild climate. The gorge is home to a skating rink situated at an elevation of 1691 meters (5548 ft) above sea level. The skating rink is a favored leisure spot for both locals and visitors to Almaty. Throughout the skating season, it welcomes over 10,000 visitors daily.
From Medeu, you'll embark on a cable car journey to Shymbulak Ski Resort. After a scenic ride lasting approximately 20-25 minutes, you'll arrive at the resort, which serves as the base for mountaineers preparing to ascend the nearby peaks.

Nestled in the scenic gorge of the Ile Alatau Mountains, Shymbulak Ski Resort is just a 15-minute drive from the heart of Almaty. Established in 1954, it served as a training base for Soviet skiers from the mid-1950s onward, hosting championships of the USSR and Kazakhstan on its slopes. The resort comprises three levels, with the highest situated at an impressive altitude of 3200 meters (10500 ft) above sea level. Prior to the Winter Asian Games-2011, the resort was reconstructed. It now features a spa center, a restaurant, several boutiques, a private ski and snowboard school, and various hotels.
From the resort, we will trek towards Manshuk Mametova Lake, covering a distance of approximately 5 km (3 mi) in one direction. After marveling at the lake, taking a break, and having lunch, we will make our way back to the Medeu Skating Rink. From there, you will be transported back to your hotel.
Named in honor of Manshuk Mametova, a World War II heroine, this lake is situated at an elevation of 3600 meters (11800 ft) above sea level. This cold and seemingly lifeless lake has a depth of 30 meters (98 ft) and is fed by a nearby glacier. However, both the lake and glacier pose significant dangers. The glacier is melting rapidly, and if the lake were to breach, an immense mass of water, mud, and stones could cascade down the gorge. If the Mynzhylky dam, positioned below the lake, fails to halt the flow, it could potentially devastate half of Almaty. Despite these risks, there's no need for fear. Each summer, experts conduct preventive measures to reduce the water volume in the lake. Additionally, the lake is equipped with a mudflow warning system.
