Kazakhstan State Border Crossing Procedure


GENERAL TERMS OF ENTERING AND EXITING THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN BY FOREIGN CITIZENS

Foreign citizens are entitled to cross the state border only at designated border posts for international passenger traffic. To view the list of international border posts, their location, working hours and classification, click here

Foreign citizens or stateless persons are entitled to enter the Republic of Kazakhstan with valid *international/domestic passports or substituting documents and entry visas unless otherwise provided in the international treaty with respective country.    *Citizens of countries-members of the Eurasian Customs Union and certain other countries of the former USSR are entitled to enter the Republic of Kazakhstan with domestic passport. 
If you need visa to enter foreign country, please apply to the diplomatic mission or consulate of the respective country in Kazakhstan in advance (not later than 15 days) and in person or via well-reputed tour operator. 

Border control procedures and migration card

Passport of the foreign citizen entering (exiting) Kazakhstan shall be duly stamped upon crossing of the state border. Another stamp shall be made (*2 stamps for these 48 countries) upon entering the country to the migration card of the visitor, which shall be issued in the border control posts to all visitors who reached the age of 16 years. The migration card shall be filled in mandatorily, however, it is easy to fill in.

The following information shall be filled in to the migration card:

      а) series and number of passport;
      b) surname; c name;
      d) nationality;
      e) purpose of visit;
      f) host party;
      g) accompanying children;
      h) signature.

   *The migration card for the citizens of these 48 countries with visa-exempt entry to the Republic of Kazakhstan shall be stamped twice, which confirms automatic registration in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Please ensure during passport control that your migration card has been stamped twice. If you have only one stamp in the migration card, you shall be obliged to register in the migration authorities upon stay in the Republic of Kazakhstan for more than 5 days. Foreign citizens with diplomatic or service passports, foreign citizens-holders of “diplomatic”, “service”, “investor” type visas of the Republic of Kazakhstan or subject to confirmation of “investor” status by the respective authorities (for countries with visa-exempt stay) shall be discharged from registration. CROSSING OF THE STATE BORDER OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN BY VEHICLE

You need documents of title for the vehicle to cross the border of the Republic of Kazakhstan, while number of entries/exits is unlimited. 

The following documents of title shall be required to cross the border of the Republic of Kazakhstan: 

      a) vehicle registration document;
      b) power of attorney from the vehicle owner, if the vehicle does not belong to the person crossing the border and driving the vehicle. If manned vehicle belongs to legal entity, the itinerary list shall be issued to the person crossing the border and driving the vehicle. 

Upon crossing of the border, the following documents are required for driving the vehicle: 

      c) driving license *international whole vehicle type approval. 
   *Citizens of the former USSR countries shall be entitled to use domestic driving license, if duration of the stay in the Republic of Kazakhstan shall not exceed 3 months and the driving license contains information in English/Russian languages.        d) insurance policy* mandatory motor third party insurance for the full period of stay of the vehicle in the Republic of Kazakhstan. 
   *Staring from the 1 January 2019 mandatory motor third party insurance is issued in electronic form for one or number of persons driving the vehicle. Cost of insurance depends on type of vehicle, period of insurance, driving experience of the insured. Please issue the insurance policy in advance prior to entry of the vehicle to the Republic of Kazakhstan and print electronic insurance policy. Please contact host tour operator for detailed information on cost and issuance of the insurance policy.
 

CROSSING THE BORDER OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN WITH MINOR CHILDREN

Foreign citizens who did not reach 16 years of age are entitled to enter the Republic of Kazakhstan with personal passport and accompanied by one of the parents or the third parties having duly issued power of attorney from one of the parents to accompany the child.

In the event of travel from the Republic of Kazakhstan abroad, the child shall have personal passport and be accompanied by *one of the parents or the third parties having duly issued power of attorney from* one of the parents to accompany the child.
   *If one of the parents is a permanent resident of the Republic of Kazakhstan, border control officials might request notarized power of attorney from such parent allowing travel of the child outside of the Republic of Kazakhstan accompanied by the second parent or other accompanying person. If residence of the second parent is unknown and there are no evidences that the parent resides in other country, the applicant shall apply to the court to receive respective evidences.
