In the morning, you will meet your guide at your hotel and embark on a trip to the Burabay resort area. Before the tour, we supply each person with 1.5 liters of bottled water. Feel free to bring your own snacks, as well as tea or coffee in a container with a lid. Upon reaching Burabay, we will explore Khan’s Pass and behold the breathtaking landscapes of Burabay and Zheke-Batyr mountains.
Situated 270 km (168 mi) north of Astana, Burabay (Borovoe) is an oasis in the midst of the steppe, showcasing lakes, coniferous forests, and rocks. The national park, established in this area, is a habitat for 757 plant species and 305 animal species, some of which are rare and endangered. Nature has sculpted unique landscapes of extraordinary beauty, blending majestic mountain scenery, reflective blue lakes, and both coniferous and deciduous groves. Burabay is a popular resort area, attracting thousands of tourists from all over Kazakhstan and abroad. Moreover, Burabay is one of the two places in Kazakhstan where gambling is allowed.
Our next destination is Abylai Khan Glade. Next, we will proceed to see the Ush-Kyz, Okzhetpes, Jumbaktas, and Kokshetau rocks. You'll have approximately an hour of free time, allowing you to leisurely explore the woods or stroll along the lakeshore.
One of the most revered sites in Burabay National Park is Abylai Khan Glade. Legend has it that this location was the headquarters for the great khan (ruler) who unified the three Kazakh juzes (the territorial divisions; the territory of modern-day Kazakhstan was then divided into three juzes). Positioned at the center of the glade stands a white stele, a monument dedicated to Abylai Khan. A short distance away, approximately 120 meters (131 yd) from the base of Kokshetau Rock, there is a rock resembling a throne. According to local lore, this rock is believed to be Abylai Khan's throne.
Next, we'll enjoy an easy hike to the summit of Mount Bolektau, offering a magnificent panoramic view of Borovoye Lake and its surroundings. We'll be back at your hotel in Astana between 7:00 and 8:00 PM.
Mount Bolektau stands apart from other mountains, reaching a height of 147 meters (482 ft). The ascent is easily manageable, requiring less than half an hour, making it accessible even for unprepared tourists. At the rocky summit, a breathtaking view unfolds, showcasing the Blue Bay, Jumbaktas Rock, Okzhetpes Rock, and the lakes Borovoe and Bolshoye Chebachye. Local tradition holds that if you descend from Mount Bolektau, make a wish while holding a branch or stone, your wish is believed to come true.
