Suspension Bridge
The Suspension Bridge is a symbol of Semey, holding the distinction of being the longest suspension bridge among post-Soviet countries. The total length of the bridge spans 1086 meters (1188 yd). This impressive structure was conceptualized by the Japanese firm IHI Corporation, with construction executed by the Turkish company Alsim Alarko. Commencing in 2000, the project reached completion in a remarkably short period, officially opening in 2002. The bridge was built to address communication challenges between the left and right banks of the Irtysh River.
Featuring a six-lane roadway, the Suspension Bridge offered a solution to the long-standing issue of frequent traffic jams. Beneath the bridge, a recreational area has been developed, equipped with workout zones, street art installations, a skate park, and a parkour area. Suspension Bridge is particularly enchanting in the evening, when it comes alive with the glow of numerous lanterns. For pedestrians, a lane provides a convenient way to traverse the bridge. It also offers breathtaking views of the Irtysh River throughout the day and especially during the sunset.
