Mount Kokshetau

It’s hard to envision the Burabay (Borovoe) resort area without its majestic mountains. While modest in height, the mountains contribute significantly to the area's allure. The highest point, Mount Kokshetau, stands at 947 meters (3107 ft). The name, which means "blue mountain", originates from the frequent occurrence of clouds at its peak, giving it a bluish tint.

A lush mixed forest is blanketing the slopes and foothills of Mount Kokshetau. The peak itself boasts a rocky terrain, adorned with scattered boulders. From its summit, a breathtaking panorama of the Burabay resort area unfolds. One can see Lake Borovoe, Maloye, and Bolshoye Chebachye.

Ascending Mount Kokshetau is best suited for those in good physical condition, preferably accompanied by a guide. The ascent typically takes around two hours, with an equal duration for descent. Along the ascent, designated rest areas offer opportunities to rest and admire the scenery. As the climb progresses, the terrain becomes increasingly challenging and steep. Individuals with cardiovascular, respiratory, or musculoskeletal conditions, as well as children and the elderly, are advised to refrain from ascending Mount Kokshetau.

How to get there?

The foothills of Mount Kokshetau are accessible by car from the village of Burabay, a mere 9 km (5.6 mi) away. From Shuchinsk, the distance extends to approximately 30 km (19 mi), while travelers from the town of Kokshetau can expect a journey of around 75 km (47 mi).
