Lake Maloye Chebachye
The Burabay resort area is a wonderful holiday destination for every taste. Those who prefer a calm retreat amidst untouched nature and enjoy fishing often choose lakes Bolshoye Chebachye and Maloye Chebachye. In this article, we will focus on the latter.
Named after the chebak fish (a type of common roach), these reservoirs are located next to each other. On the southeastern side of Maloye Chebachye lies Mount Kokshetau, the area’s tallest mountain. The shoreline is pebbly in places, gradually transitioning into sandy beaches, while the southern part of the lake features rocky shores.
The maximum depth of Maloye Chebachye ranges from 12 to 16 meters (39-52 ft), according to various sources. The water is brackish and unsuitable for drinking, primarily serving the needs of farms in the nearby village of Akylbay. The lake is covered with ice from the end of November to the end of April. In summer, the water warms up nicely, making swimming very comfortable.
Fishing at Maloye Chebachye
Maloye Chebachye is part of Burabay National Park and is classified as a specially protected site, requiring a special permit for fishing. The lake is home to many species of fish, including chebak, perch, bream, carp, pike, roach, vendace, peled, and gold and silver crucian carp.
Accommodations and Amenities
There are very few hotels and resorts on the shores of Maloye Chebachye. True nature enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, camping, and relaxing by a fire will find this place ideal. Rental housing is available in the village of Akylbay on the western side of the lake.
The lake features both free and paid beaches. The paid beach offers more amenities, such as toilets and trash cans. A nearby campsite provides facilities for setting up camp, including tables and gazebos for tourists.
Most visitors are residents of nearby villages. There are fewer tourists from other regions, as many prefer the more well-known Lake Borovoe and Lake Shuchye. The relative obscurity of Maloye Chebachye contributes to its tranquil atmosphere.
How to get there?
We recommend traveling to Lake Maloye Chebachye by car. If you are driving from Astana, take the Kokshetau highway. A few kilometers after passing the town of Shuchinsk, you will see a sign for the village of Akylbay. Follow the road to the right into the village, and the lake will be on your right-hand side.
