Jumbaktas Rock

The Jumbaktas Rock is a recognizable and iconic symbol of the Burabay resort area in Central Kazakhstan. Whether in images, promotional banners, or video presentations about Burabay, Jumbaktas is the foremost attraction that captures people’s gaze. Its prominence is well-deserved, as a single encounter with this distinctive rock will leave an indelible impression.

Translated from the Kazakh language, Jumbaktas means a mysterious stone. To fathom why this rock bears such a name, one must possess attentiveness, patience, and a vivid imagination. Some may discern a mysterious sphinx in its contours, while others might perceive the shape of a boat. Shifting your perspective, the rock's profile may conjure the image of a graceful maiden with wind-tousled hair, or, at times, it may even evoke the likeness of an elderly woman.

The rock is situated in the northwestern part of Lake Borovoe, often referred to as the crown jewel of the Burabay resort area. Here, one can immerse themselves in the stunning scenery of expansive lakes, imposing mountains, rugged rock formations, and dense forests – all of which constitute integral parts of the Burabay National Park.

Near Jumbaktas, you'll encounter other intriguing and distinctive rock formations. However, what sets Jumbaktas apart is not solely its mysterious visage but also the way it emerges from the waters of Lake Borovoe, rising approximately 15 meters (49 ft) above the surface. Visitors can approach the rock by swimming or by utilizing boats and catamarans available for rent along the nearby shoreline. For safety reasons, climbing the rock is discouraged.

How to get there?
