Atbasar History Museum

The History Museum in Atbasar opened its doors in 1978. It is housed in a wooden building that stands as a historical monument. The house originally belonged to merchant A. Belov. Following the 1917 revolution, it became the location of the first revolutionary district committee. The second floor of the building previously functioned as a library. In 1993, the town administration allocated both floors to the museum. Today, the museum boasts 12 halls with approximately 10,000 exhibits.

The Museum’s Halls

One hall showcases the region's diverse and beautiful nature, while another is dedicated to archaeology. The ethnographic hall presents a yurt's interior, Kazakh national clothing, household items, and jewelry.

The "History of the Town" hall explores the region's life from 1914 to 1937, including the history of immigrants from Ukraine and Russia.

A dedicated exhibition covers Atbasar during WWII. The hall features a model of the Berlin Soviet War Memorial. It depicts a Red Army soldier holding a German girl. Notably, Ivan Odarchenko, a native of Atbasar, was a model for this sculpture.

A separate hall focuses on modern Kazakhstan. Another hall, opened in 2018, is devoted to the leaders of the Alash Party. It exhibits details of the Kazakh and Kyrgyz intelligentsia's attempt to establish an independent state from the Russian Empire in modern Kazakhstan's territory. Founded in 1917, the party existed for only three years before being dissolved by the Bolsheviks.
