Aksai Gorge

The Aksai Gorge, nestled within the Ile Alatau Mountains, is a natural treasure safeguarded within the Ile-Alatau National Park. Accessing this region requires obtaining permission. Notably, the renowned Aksai skete graces this gorge – a monastery erected by the monks hailing from the city of Verny (former name of Almaty). Remarkably, the monastery welcomes visitors even in the absence of an entry pass.

While the Aksai Gorge boasts breathtaking scenery, it remains relatively untraveled due to the intricate procedure involved in obtaining the required pass. Yet, for those undaunted by challenges, the rewards prove undoubtedly worthwhile. Verdant spruce and deciduous forests sprawl across the landscape, imbuing the mountains with a myriad of green hues. Alpine meadows adorned with aromatic blossoms, snow-crowned peaks of the Ile Alatau Mountains, secluded pathways, glaciers, and lakes – all these wonders find their sanctuary within the Aksai Gorge.

Spanning across a vast area, the gorge unfolds in three distinct segments: Left, Middle, and Right Aksai, collectively spanning a length of 20 km (12 mi). Occasionally, you can meet climbers, drawn by the allure of the climbing route named the «Aksai Horseshoe», which winds along the gorge's peaks. This route encompasses a total of 14 peaks.Аксайское ущелье
