Chunja Hot Springs
Nestled in the heart of the Almaty Region lies the picturesque village of Chunja (also spelled as Chundzha), home to the renowned Chunja Hot Springs. These thermal waters, which boast an impressive 140 sources, have a fascinating origin story dating back 200 million years to an ancient volcano that once stood in the area. Despite the volcano's demise, its magma continues to heat the groundwater, resulting in the emergence of these natural hot springs.
Chunja's history is equally captivating – the village originated as a fortress in the late 19th century, guiding caravans along their routes. Nowadays, it is a sought-after destination for hot springs enthusiasts seeking relief from a variety of health conditions. The mineral-rich waters of Chunja Hot Springs contain an array of elements and minerals from the periodic table, such as nitrogen, sodium, methane, silicon, and calcium salts. These elements are believed to have potent healing properties and attract visitors from far and wide to treat a range of ailments, from skin and neurological conditions to digestive and kidney problems.
The unique combination of mineral-rich water and ideal climatic conditions in Chunja makes it a popular destination for rest and relaxation. The surrounding landscapes only add to the charm of the place, making it a truly exceptional destination. With numerous recreation centers available in Chunja, there is something to suit every taste and budget. The water in these centers varies in temperature, ranging from warm to very hot, and is categorized by its composition, such as hydrogen sulfide, radon, and iodine-bromine. It is important to note that visitors should consult a doctor for any contraindications before immersing themselves in the local waters.
