How to get there?
To reach the northern shore of the reservoir, follow the A-3 highway from Almaty, passing through the city of Konayev.
For access to the southern shore, make a turn from the A-3 onto the Ili tract.
If you prefer public transportation, catch a bus to Konayev from the Sayran bus station in Almaty. Alternatively, a daily train departs from Almaty-1 railway station in the same direction.
By the way, there is plenty to do near Konayev besides just lying on the beach. To the north of the town, you can discover the Tamgaly-Tas Petroglyph Site and the intriguing City of Nomads, while to the northeast lies the Altyn-Emel National Park.
