The Village of Narynkol

The village of Narynkol is located within the Almaty Region, adjacent to the Bayankol River and close to the border with China. Its origins trace back to 1872 when it was established by the Cossacks, initially under the name Okhotnichiy.

Narynkol and its environs are known for the presence of the red birch, an indigenous tree species exclusive to Kazakhstan. These unique trees grow solely in the valleys of the Bayankol and Tekes rivers. The red birch is a remarkably rare species, and despite its scarcity, its wood is sought after for its excellent burning properties, leading to deforestation.

Beyond the extraordinary red birch, many other natural wonders beckon exploration. The Tien Shan mountains offer breathtaking vistas, while ancient coniferous forests and a turbulent river add to the vibrant tapestry of the region's landscape.

As for the settlement itself, Narynkol is experiencing rapid development. There are schools, kindergartens, a hospital, a mosque, a football field, and even a park, offering the comforts of urban living amidst natural splendor. Narynkol combines the allure of a rural escape with the conveniences of urban amenities, making it an ideal weekend getaway. Moreover, its strategic location facilitates convenient access to some attractions.

How to get there?

The distance between Almaty and Narynkol spans approximately 353 kilometers (220 mi) and can be traversed in 4.5 hours via the A-351 highway.
