Ushkonyr Plateau

 

The Almaty region is a treasure trove of natural beauty, boasting an abundance of picturesque gorges, lakes, and valleys. Among these remarkable places, the Ushkonyr Plateau stands out as a true gem, nestled between the Shamalgan and Uzun Kargaly gorges, at an impressive altitude of 2000 meters (6500 ft) above sea level.

Stretching across a sprawling expanse of 8 kilometers (5 mi) in length and approximately 4 kilometers (2.5 mi) in width, Ushkonyr serves as a summer pasture. As spring arrives, a transformation takes place, as the plateau adorns itself with an exquisite tapestry of wild tulips, irises, and primroses. The sight is nothing short of a breathtaking spectacle.

Ushkonyr holds a special allure for thrill-seekers and adventure enthusiasts, particularly those with a penchant for soaring through the skies. Paragliding and hang gliding experiences in this valley are renowned for their awe-inspiring nature. Nestled amidst this breathtaking scenery lies the Ushkonyr paragliding site, a haven for those passionate about flight.

How to get there?

From Almaty, drive along the Upper Kaskelen highway towards the village of Zhandosovo. Once in Zhandosovo, proceed along Ardagerler street, heading towards the mountains. Before reaching Zhibek Zholy St., make a left turn. Here, the paved road ends and a dirt road begins. Continue on the dirt road for approximately 8 kilometers (5 mi) until you reach the Ushkonyr Plateau.
