Almaty Arena
The Almaty Arena and the Halyk Arena were both constructed for the Winter Universiade 2017, with a project timeline spanning two years. The grand inauguration ceremony took place in 2016. This impressive stadium comprises two arenas: a big one with a seating capacity of 12,000 spectators and a smaller one accommodating up to 3,000 people. The seating arrangements and the placement of the video cube above the arena were thoughtfully designed to ensure maximum comfort for the audience. Additionally, the facility offers luxury boxes for rent, providing exclusive amenities such as enhanced arena views, a separate entrance, and private restrooms.
The ice for the skating rink undergoes a purification process before being laid and polished to achieve the desired quality using specialized machinery. The technology employed in freezing the ice meets all established standards.
Following the conclusion of the Universiade, the stadium has become a popular venue for ice skating enthusiasts. Furthermore, it houses a swimming pool and offers training programs in various sports disciplines including boxing, wrestling, figure skating, rhythmic gymnastics, and judo. Additionally, the facility hosts clubs and sections dedicated to activities such as jiu-jitsu, hockey, Nordic walking, dombra playing, chess, and more.
Beyond serving as a hub for sports activities and events, the stadium is also a versatile venue for concerts, seminars, conferences, and a wide range of gatherings.
The Almaty Arena boasts a distinctive futuristic design. Two oval structures of varying sizes are positioned at a distance from each other, connected by a central rectangular structure. The architects drew inspiration from the shape of a hockey puck, while the domes of the buildings mirror the snowy peaks of the Ile Alatau Mountains. On the sides of the complex, golden sleek lines pay homage to the marks left by skates on ice. The exterior design of the Almaty Arena captures the essence of the kerege (the collapsible and sliding lattice base of a traditional yurt).
