Kazakh State Academic Theater named after M. Auezov

The Kazakh State Academic Theater stands as a premier destination for cultural activities, embodying a rich history and vibrant artistic performances. Originally established in Kyzylorda in 1925 as the first Kazakh theater in the country, it relocated to Almaty in 1929 following the transfer of the Kazakh SSR's capital.

In 1961, the theater was bestowed the honor of being named after the distinguished Kazakh writer Mukhtar Auezov. The stage became a platform for staging famous plays by influential Kazakh playwrights such as M. Auezov, I. Zhansugurov, G. Musrepov, B. Mailin, and S. Seifullin.

Stepping into the new century, the theater embraced the winds of change, refreshing its productions and interpretations to adapt to current trends. Theater directors skillfully reimagined classical works, breathing new life into them and allowing the theater to establish itself on the international stage. The theater's troupe embarked on successful tours to France, Turkey, Japan, Egypt, Korea, Russia, England, and beyond.

The theater's building dates back to 1981 when a team of talented architects created a remarkable and monumental structure in the modernist style. The facade of the theater is adorned with relief marble slabs intricately decorated with traditional Kazakh ornaments, exemplifying the fusion of modernity and cultural heritage. Inside, the spacious lobby welcomes visitors with portraits of illustrious actors and directors who have worked in the theater throughout the years. The lobby's centerpiece is a magnificent chandelier designed by a renowned German company specializing in lamps.

Outside the theater, a monument dedicated to Mukhtar Auezov stands as a tribute to the esteemed writer, while fountains enhance the ambiance, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere for theatergoers.
