Monument to Yuri Gagarin
An intriguing art installation emerged in Almaty several years ago and has since become an attraction for both residents and tourists. The sculpture features Yuri Gagarin, the renowned astronaut, seated on a bench adorned with national ornaments. Gagarin's face is concealed behind his helmet, while he is clad in a spacesuit. His hands are positioned on the backrest, seemingly embracing those who choose to sit beside him.
The sculpture, crafted from solid bronze, is the work of A. Shaken and A. Kabyl, students of the Kazakh Academy of Arts. Their artistic vision has captured the essence of Gagarin's historic flight, which originated from the Baikonur Cosmodrome situated on Kazakhstani soil. As the birthplace of the world's first manned space mission, Kazakhstan holds a significant place in space exploration history.
How to get there?
The sculpture is located at the intersection of Gagarin and Abai avenues. You can get there by buses #25, 34, 57, 65, 92, 116, 118, 120, and 128 or trolleybuses #5, 19, and 25. Alatau subway station is only 350 meters (383 yd) away.
