Halyk Arena
The Halyk Arena stadium, along with the Almaty Arena, was constructed for the Winter Universiade 2017. During the grand opening of the arena, the renowned Kazakhstani figure skater and Olympic Games bronze medalist, Denis Ten, gave a performance.
Primarily intended for hosting hockey matches and figure skating tournaments, the arena is designed to transform the hockey rink into a versatile space for other sports such as football, basketball, and boxing. While transformed, a special thermal coating safeguards the ice from damage. Moreover, the stadium isn't limited to sports; it accommodates cultural events such as concerts and conferences.
The stadium is equipped with cutting-edge amenities, catering to the needs of officials, athletes, media personnel, and even doping control. Among its features is a state-of-the-art three-lane treadmill for professional training.
Halyk Arena bears the moniker of its main sponsor, the Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan, marking the first instance in the country's history where a sports facility is named after a sponsor.
Within the complex's premises are diverse sports and educational sections spanning swimming, wrestling, hockey, and more. The Halyk Arena serves as a place for mass skating, drawing townspeople year-round for both winter and summer enjoyment. Skates are available for rent on-site.
Notably, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sports complex was repurposed as a temporary hospital.
Architecturally, the Halyk Arena complex mirrors the Almaty Arena with its twin oval structures (main and secondary) flanking an administrative center. The logo of Halyk Bank, featuring green lettering and a yellow wave, graces the dome of one of the arenas as well as the facade.
