Kazakhfilm Studio

Founded in 1934, Kazakhfilm Studio is Kazakhstan's largest film production facility, responsible for creating movies, TV series, documentaries, cartoons, commercials, and music videos. The studio is named after the celebrated Soviet and Kazakh actor, theater luminary, and film director Shaken Aimanov.

In the era of the Soviet Union, this studio bore the name Alma-Ata Newsreel Studio. During the tumultuous years of World War II, when the western regions of the USSR faced the advance of the German forces, the Mosfilm and Lenfilm studios were relocated from Moscow and Leningrad to Almaty. During this period, the Alma-Ata film studio merged temporarily with these cinematic giants, resulting in the production of numerous patriotic films glorifying war and heroism. Subsequently, in the 1960s, the studio assumed its current name as Kazakhfilm.

Kazakhfilm boasts state-of-the-art facilities that encompass shooting pavilions, production and laboratory buildings, film production workshops, and a cutting-edge recording studio.

Some of the studio's most notable recent cinematic endeavors include Nomad: the Warrior, Kazakh Khanate: the Golden Throne, Dawn of the Great Steppe, Baluan Sholak, The Needle, featuring Viktor Tsoi, Tomiris, The Old Man, and Myn Bala, among others. Additionally, a Museum of Kazakh Cinema is situated within the studio's premises, paying tribute to the rich cinematic heritage of Kazakhstan.
