Kazakh-British Technical University
After the visit of the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to the United Kingdom, a decision was made to establish a university in Kazakhstan adhering to British educational standards. In the early 2000s, the Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) was founded, emerging as a leading institution not only in Kazakhstan but also in Central Asia.
KBTU offers a range of academic programs, including bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. The university comprises various faculties, such as the School of Energy and Oil and Gas Products, Kazakhstan Maritime Academy, School of Applied Mathematics, School of Natural and Social Sciences, Business School, and others. Notably, the International School of Economics is affiliated with the University of London, a globally renowned institution. Graduates from this faculty receive a diploma from the University of London.
The university is situated in the former building of the Supreme Council of the KazSSR. Constructed between 1951 and 1957, the building boasts a monumental structure. The main facade is adorned with a grand 8-column spatial portico. This historic building played a pivotal role in 1991, serving as the venue where the Law on the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan was adopted.
