Korean Theater of Musical Comedy

Throughout its 90-year history, the Korean Theater has undergone numerous changes in both its name and location. Established in 1932 in Vladivostok, Russia, the theater initially exclusively showcased plays written by Korean authors. However, within five years of its inception, the theater's staff split into two groups: one troupe relocated to Kyzylorda, while the other made its home in Tashkent. During this period, the theater expanded its repertoire to include performances based on Soviet literary works.

Notably, in 1939, the theater's watchman was none other than Hong Beom-do, a national hero of Korea who had valiantly fought against Japanese colonization. Subsequently, the theater paid tribute to his legacy with productions like "Hong Beom-do" and "Hong: Flying Through the Centuries."

During the tumultuous era of the Second World War, the Korean Theater, like other cultural institutions in the Soviet Union, served as a beacon of hope for ordinary citizens, staging patriotic performances. In the early years of the war, the Kyzylorda branch of the theater was relocated to the Taldykorgan region. In 1950, both theater teams (Tashkent and Taldykorgan) reunited and established their base at the Ushtobe station. In the 1950s, the theater returned to Kyzylorda and subsequently embarked on tours to various cities within the USSR.

In 1968, the theater made a significant move to Almaty, where it transformed into the Korean Theater of Musical Comedy. Over the years, the Korean Theater has earned numerous accolades, prizes, and awards. It has toured extensively across North and South Korea.

For those interested in attending performances, tickets can be purchased at the box office or online through platforms such as ticketon.kz.
