Museum of the National Bank of Kazakhstan
In 1997, the Museum of the National Bank of Kazakhstan was opened in Almaty. The first visitor to the museum was Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first president of the country. One of the most notable exhibits is a replica of the headdress of the Golden Man, an ancient warrior clad in golden armor, discovered in a Scythian burial mound.
The museum displays a collection of coins and banknotes issued throughout the history of Kazakhstan. Notable highlights include a diverse array of currencies, ranging from those circulated during the Silk Road era to the period of the Soviet Union's formation in the 1920s. The numismatic collection further encompasses coins from the Russian Empire, featuring iconic figures such as Peter the Great, Catherine II, Nicholas I, Nicholas II, and Alexander III. Additionally, the museum showcases German, Austro-Hungarian, Polish, Mexican, Chinese, and various other coins.
