Turan Peak

Turan Peak, once described as nameless in many Soviet textbooks, still lacks an official designation. The peak is referred to as Turan and the Peak of the Institute of Nuclear Physics. Standing at an elevation of 3970 meters (13025 ft), it towers over the Big Almaty Gorge, situated between the Tourist Peak and the Kazarmennaya Peak.

The name Turan was given to the peak in recognition of the eponymous university in Almaty. This naming occurred in 2006, when the leaders of the university's tourism department ascended the summit.

The first ascent of Turan Peak transpired in 1952, accomplished by climbers V. Vekshin and A. Maryashev. From its summit, one can see breathtaking vistas of the Ile Alatau Mountains. Additionally, the peak serves as a venue for winter backcountry activities.

How to get there?

The most straightforward route to reach the peak is from the adjacent Tourist Peak. To embark on this journey, start by traversing the Big Almaty Lake to reach the Cosmostation. From there, proceed in the direction of Tourist Peak, and Turan is not far beyond.
