Titov Peak

Titov Peak (3850 m – 12631 ft) in the Ile Alatau Mountains may be dwarfed in comparison to its neighboring Molodezhny Peak, yet it boasts a distinct charm. It's the perfect spot to admire the amazing view of Big Almaty Lake. Serving as a defining boundary of the Gorelnik Gorge, Titov Peak also treats those who venture to the Titov Pass with picturesque views of both the gorge itself and its moraine lakes. Nestled at the mountain's base, there's a little lake with the same name, and the Gorelnik River flows nearby.

The peak is rocky and steep so exercise caution during any ascent. While scaling the summit doesn't demand specialized training or equipment, if you choose to embark on this journey during colder months, proper clothes are essential. Likewise, in the summer, sunscreen becomes an indispensable companion.

Valerian Titov, a botanist who started a group of young naturalists, lends his name to this peak. In 1930, his students, who conquered the summit, named the peak after their mentor to honor him.

How to get there?

The journey from Almaty to Titov Peak covers roughly 40 km (25 mi). Begin by following Kerey-Zhanibek Khandar St, which passes by the Medeu Skating Rink. Continue your route by taking the cable car up to the highest station of the Shymbulak Ski Resort. Once there, hike towards the Tuyuksu alpine camp and the Mynzhylky dam. From the dam, it's approximately a 2 km (mi) trek to reach the Titov Pass, marking the starting point of the ascent towards the peak.
