Palace of Schoolchildren
Constructed in 1983, the Palace of Schoolchildren in Almaty originally bore the name "Republican Palace of Pioneers and Schoolchildren" until it was officially renamed in 2009. Notably, the construction employed exclusively local materials. Wooden and metal structures were produced in the Almaty Region, while granite was sourced from Balkhash and Kordai, and shell rock from Mangystau.
The palace serves for out-of-school education needs of the younger generation. It consists of 12 pavilions arranged in a spiral fashion, with the central Celebration Hall featuring a golden dome.
The Schoolchildren's Palace boasts a range of facilities, including a spacious concert hall, a swimming pool, and diverse clubs such as mathematics, biology, ecology, science, arts and crafts. Additionally, the palace houses choreographic and sports halls, a fairy tale hall, a costume room, an exhibition hall, and studios for master classes. A music school within the palace offers instruction in vocals and the playing of various instruments like the piano, flute, violin, saxophone, and traditional Kazakh musical instruments such as dombra, kobyz, and zhetygen.
