Gylym Ordasy Museum
The Gylym Ordasy Museum, situated within the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, opened its doors in 2010. Gylym Ordasy is a comprehensive complex encompassing a scientific center and several museums, such as the Museum of Nature of Kazakhstan, the Museum of Archeology of Kazakhstan, the Museum of Rare Books, and the Museum of the History of Kazakhstani Science. Additionally, the complex is home to the Central Scientific Library.
The Museum of Archeology boasts a remarkable collection of artifacts spanning ancient and medieval Kazakhstan's history. It was at this museum that scholars conducted extensive research on the Issyk Golden Man, a Scythian warrior clad in golden armor unearthed from a mound near Almaty. The museum also features a special exhibition dedicated to the reconstruction of Berel burial mound No. 11 from the Kazakh Altai region.
At the Museum of Nature, visitors can marvel at fossilized remains of animals, plants, and dinosaurs discovered on Kazakhstan's territory. This museum is divided into Paleontological and Zoological halls, offering a captivating exploration of the country's natural history.
The Museum of the History of Kazakhstani Science allows visitors to delve into the works of renowned Middle Ages thinkers such as Al-Farabi, Mahmud al-Kashgari, Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, Yusuf Balasaguni, and more. The museum also showcases exhibitions featuring the works of Kazakh writers like Abay Kunanbayev, Ybyrai Altynsarin, and Choqan Walikhanov. Furthermore, the museum houses a collection of materials detailing the life, culture, history, and traditions of the Kazakh people.
The Museum of Rare Books was founded on the foundation of the Central Scientific Library. This museum is home to rare copies of historical, cultural, and scientific manuscripts, books, and works originating from Kazakhstan and beyond. Notably, it features first-edition books authored by Kazakh intellectuals and members of the Alash party, who aspired to establish a state even before the formation of the USSR.
The Central Scientific Library, established in 1932, houses a vast collection of hundreds of thousands of books. It contains rare copies not only from Kazakhstan but from around the world. The library actively collaborates with global libraries and research institutions. Its collection encompasses rich scientific literature in the Kazakh language from the XIX-XX centuries, books written in Old Church Slavonic, Arabic, and more.
