Memorial to Denis Ten
In 2019, a memorial was unveiled to honor the renowned Kazakh figure skater Denis Ten. The sculpture was crafted by M. Makushkin, the same artist responsible for the monument to Viktor Tsoi. The memorial features a 2-meter bronze statue of Denis Ten, his arm raised in a triumphant pose. The bronze sculpture stands atop a granite pedestal, which includes a replica of the bronze medal Denis earned at the 2014 Olympic Games.
Denis Ten was an exceptional singles figure skater, celebrated for earning the bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He also secured two World medals and triumphed as the 2015 Four Continents champion, marking a historic achievement as the first Kazakhstani figure skater to reach such heights. Sadly, his life was tragically cut short at the age of 25 when he was attacked by car thieves. The memorial was erected one year after Ten's untimely passing, precisely at the location where the incident took place.
To honor Denis' legacy, the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge was established in 2021. This annual figure skating competition includes both senior and junior-level events.
