Almaty-2 Railway Station
Almaty-2 railway station, an integral part of the Kazakhstan Railways network, was erected in 1939. The architecture melds classical and antique styles, featuring decorative elements and columns.
The station building comprises a vestibule and two pavilions – eastern and western. Within the station lobby, passengers have access to a pharmacy, gift shop, newsstand, information desk, and post office. The eastern pavilion hosts pre-sale ticket offices, a waiting room, and a restaurant, while the western pavilion accommodates ticket sales desks and luggage storage. On the second floor, visitors will find an information desk for international transportation, a first aid station, a police station, and restroom facilities.

Almaty-2 Railway Station stands as the primary railway junction not only for the city but for the entire country. Its significance lies in serving the largest number of intercity and international trains.
Almaty-2 connects Kazakhstan, Russia, China, and Uzbekistan. Trains depart to destinations such as Urumqi, Tashkent, Nukus, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Saratov, Barnaul, Samarkand, Novoaltaisk, Krasnoufimsk, among others.
Domestically, the station provides routes to Astana, Karaganda, Pavlodar, Uralsk, Shchuchinsk, Mangystau, Saryagash, Petropavlovsk, Semey, Shymkent, Zhezkazgan, and various other cities.

In contrast to Almaty-1 Railway Station, Almaty-2 is conveniently located close to the city center. It’s reachable by buses #12, 208, and trolleybuses #5, 6.
Bus #12 will take you through the very center of Almaty and then will head straight to the mountains, to the high-altitude Medeu Skating Rink. Along the way bus #12 passes by Astana Square, Lermontov Russian Drama Theater, Hotel Kazakhstan, and Dostyk Plaza Shopping Mall.
Bus #208 heads north without notable attractions.
Trolleybus #5 covers Lermontov Russian Drama Theater, National Library, Central Stadium, Circus, Fantasy World Amusement Park, and Family Park.
Trolleybus #6 follows a similar route to trolleybus #5.
For additional transportation options, walking south to Raiymbek Batyr Ave. from the railway station is recommended. While there are no direct subway lines, Raiymbek Batyr subway station is approximately 1 km (0.6 mi) away from Almaty-2 station.
