Uyghur Theater of Musical Comedy
In the challenging 1930s marked by harsh repressions, Almaty welcomed a new cultural haven – the Uyghur Theater of Musical Comedy. Drawing inspiration from Almaty's diverse theatrical landscape, including Russian, Kazakh, and Tatar stages, the Uyghur theater embraced a rich repertoire.
The theater now houses multiple creative teams, featuring a drama troupe, the Sada youth pop ensemble, the Nava folk ensemble, and the Rukhsara dance group. Audiences can relish performances based on Uyghur national works and renowned adaptations such as "Makhambet," "Gypsy Serenade," "Romeo and Juliet," "The Light of Kashgaria," "The Gates of Destiny," and "Astana."
The Uyghur theater has been awarded with numerous honorary titles and toured Russia, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Azerbaijan, the USA, Hungary, and Egypt.
