Khalifa Altai Mosque
Islam, like many other global religions, is rooted in principles of peace and virtue, and it holds the mosque as a central place of worship. The Khalifa Altai Mosque, situated in the East Kazakhstan Region, stands as a magnificent jewel within the city's architectural landscape. As the largest mosque in the East Kazakhstan Region, it can accommodate up to 3,000 worshipers, ranking among the top 10 largest mosques in the entire country. It is often the first destination for visitors to the city, drawing them to partake in spiritual reflection, prayer, and a closer connection with the Divine.
Constructed in 2012, this sacred edifice was officially named in honor of the esteemed Kazakh writer Khalifa Altai, who made a profound contribution to the growth of Islam in the country. The mosque's construction was made possible through a collaborative effort, with funding derived from regional residents, governmental allocations, support from commercial enterprises, and contributions from sponsors based in the United Arab Emirates.
The mosque's grandeur is apparent from afar, with four towering minarets that stand at an impressive height of 63 meters (207 ft), symbolizing the years of the Prophet Muhammad's life. Upon closer inspection, the classical Islamic architectural style dominates the structure. A central chandelier, measuring 7 meters (23 ft) in height and 5 meters (16 ft) in diameter, crafted from pure crystal and copper, becomes an immediate focal point. The mosque's floor is carpeted. Its exterior is adorned with blue domes that catch the eye of passersby, while the intricate elements and patterns adorning its walls demonstrate the skill and artistry of its creators. The color scheme inside the building harmoniously blends shades of beige and blue.
