Holy Trinity Cathedral

The Holy Trinity Cathedral was the first Russian Orthodox Church in the Kazakh Altai region and is the oldest brick building in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Construction began in the 18th century and was completed in 1809. Before the brick structure was erected, a wooden church stood on the site but was destroyed by fire. In 1928, following the establishment of Communism, the church was closed. Over the next century, the building was repurposed several times, serving as a vegetable storehouse, a garrison club, and a military storehouse. During this period, much of the cathedral's original features, including the church fence, bell, domes, and most interior decorations, were lost.

In 1991, with Kazakhstan's independence, the cathedral was returned to the Orthodox believers of Ust-Kamenogorsk. Two years later, it was transformed into Kazakhstan's first male diocesan monastery and was re-consecrated.

From 2013 to 2014, the Holy Trinity Cathedral underwent significant reconstruction. Dilapidated parts were replaced, new golden domes and bells were installed. An iconostasis, painted in the style of late 18th-century icons, was brought from Russia.

Today, visitors can view the relics housed within the temple, including those of St. Seraphim of Sarov, St. Macarius of Altai, St. Sebastian of Karaganda, and others.
