East Kazakhstan Regional Drama Theater

The Drama Theater in Ust-Kamenogorsk is one of the city's most historic buildings, constructed in 1902. The architects drew inspiration from eclectic, neo-Romanesque, and modernist styles. Remarkably, the building’s unique architecture has been preserved in its original form. The two-story structure, with its rich terracotta color, is made of brick, and its facade is adorned with snow-white columns. High arched windows, elegant doorways, and small turrets at the corners lend the theater a distinctive old-fashioned charm. The building features a variety of decorative elements in mixed styles, making it a unique landmark.

The theater troupe has toured extensively, performing in many cities across Kazakhstan and abroad. During World War II, the theater served as a refuge for victims, and in the post-war years, it hosted productions themed around the war. Since 2000, the theater has housed two troupes, one performing in Russian and the other in Kazakh. The first Kazakh language performance, "Kozy-Korpesh and Bayan Sulu," based on the play by G. Musrepov, was staged in 2001. Today, the theater continues to stage plays in both Russian and Kazakh.

The East Kazakhstan Regional Drama Theatre is recognized as an architectural monument and a cultural heritage site in Ust-Kamenogorsk. This stunningly beautiful building delights both the eyes and souls of cultural enthusiasts.
