Astana Arena

Located on Turan Avenue, not far from the Alau Ice Rink and the Martial Arts Palace, Astana Arena is a prominent stadium that was grandly opened in 2009. Boasting a large capacity, it can accommodate over 30,000 spectators.

The inaugural football match at Astana Arena featured the youth soccer team of Kazakhstan and the local club Lokomotiv. Adding to the significance of the occasion, the honor of kicking off the game was bestowed upon Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first President of Kazakhstan. Subsequently, on October 14, 2009, the stadium played host to its first official match between the national teams of Kazakhstan and Croatia. This match was part of the qualifying tournament for the 2010 World Cup, and Croatia emerged victorious with a score of 2:1.

Astana Arena has also served as the venue for various notable events. In 2011, it held the opening ceremony of the Asian Winter Games and hosted the only MUZ-TV channel award ceremony conducted outside of Russia. Furthermore, in 2019, the stadium accommodated a concert by Dimash Kudaibergen, attracting attendees from 65 countries.

Structure and facilities

The stadium itself features a two-level structure. The first tier comprises a terrace capable of seating 15,000 spectators, while the upper tier hangs from the eastern and western sides. Regardless of the seating position, spectators enjoy excellent visibility of the events transpiring on the field. The stadium incorporates four stands, each strategically positioned to correspond with the cardinal points.

In line with the special requirements for hosting international matches and adhering to the UEFA classification, the stadium holds the 4th category designation. It means that Astana Arena can host even the final of UEFA European Championship.

While primarily intended for football matches, Astana Arena frequently hosts judo, boxing, and wrestling competitions, further cementing its versatility as a multifunctional sporting venue.
