Astana Ballet
The Astana Ballet Theater has been an integral part of the Kazakh cultural scene since its inception in 2012. Its debut performance took place the following year at the Astana Opera, where ballet dancers shared the stage with opera singers. However, it soon became evident that the Astana Ballet needed its own space, and in 2016, a new theater was built in a new district of the capital, close to the facilities erected for the international exhibition EXPO 2017.
State-of-the-art technology
The Astana Ballet Theater is an architectural gem, characterized by its modern sophistication. Visitors are struck by the beauty of the interior decoration, which reflects the youthful spirit of the Astana Ballet team. In addition, the building houses the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography. The theater's heart is the audience hall, which can accommodate up to 783 seats, including stalls and balconies. The stage area is 536 sq. m, and the orchestra pit can house 60 musicians. The stage's versatility is enhanced by modern technologies that allow for a variety of configurations to suit different directorial visions.
The theater's flexibility allows for performances by symphony, pop, and folk orchestras, creative meetings, and musicals. The artists are proud of their theater and consider it one of the best in the country. Two rehearsal halls with parameters equal to the stage's area are available, making preparation for performances convenient and efficient.
From classical to contemporary
The repertoire of the Astana Ballet Theater is diverse, ranging from classical to contemporary performances. The ballet fairy tale «The Nutcracker», «Carmen», «Serenade», «Walpurgis Night», «Sultan Baibars», «Legend of Love», «From Century to Century», «Zhusan», and other ballet performances are among the offerings. In addition to masterpieces of world classics, visitors can enjoy original performances staged by modern ballet masters.
Since 2013, the Astana Ballet artists have toured extensively, visiting China, France, Austria, Russia, the USA, Korea, and other countries. The theater provides a space where anyone can experience the art of dance and feel the modern theater's spirit while retaining the best traditions of the past.
