Barys Arena

Barys Arena, located in Astana, owes its appearance to the auditors of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), which is home to the Barys hockey club. In 2011, during an inspection of the Kazakhstan Sports Complex, where the team previously played, it was revealed that the stadium did not meet the required standards. Rather than renovating the old facility, a decision was made to construct a brand-new arena.

The ambitious construction project commenced in 2012, and on August 8, 2015, the eagerly anticipated ice arena welcomed its first visitors. The following day, the Barys hockey club played their inaugural game for the President's Cup, defeating the Metallurg hockey club from Novokuznetsk, Russia, with a score of 4:2.

A multifunctional stadium

Designed in a high-tech style, Barys Arena boasts a striking exterior with a glass facade that changes color depending on the weather conditions. The roof of the sports complex is circular and flat, supported by metal structures that bifurcate at the top.

The main ice arena has a seating capacity of nearly 12,000 spectators, while between the upper and lower tiers, VIP boxes accommodate approximately 800 people. Adjacent to these boxes, there is a restaurant offering a prime view of the matches, allowing fans to enjoy a meal while watching the action unfold.

For a more immersive experience, the lower rows are positioned as close as possible to the protective glass surrounding the ice arena, providing an intense and engaging atmosphere for spectators. Above the center of the arena hangs a large video cube, broadcasting the match. Plasma panels are also strategically placed throughout the corridors, offering additional viewing options. Visitors can explore cafes and shops within the complex, which offer a range of Barys fan merchandise. Furthermore, the upper floors provide breathtaking panoramic views of the city.

Barys Arena goes beyond hockey and ice sports. The facility houses an Olympic-sized swimming pool and diving platform, enabling the stadium to host swimming, diving, water polo, and synchronized swimming competitions. Furthermore, the arena serves as a venue for concerts, forums, and a wide range of other events, showcasing its multi-purpose nature.
