Khazret Sultan Mosque

Khazret Sultan Mosque is the second biggest mosque in Astana. It is named after Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, who founded the Turkic branch of Sufism and was a renowned poet and thinker. Sometimes, he was referred to as Khazret Sultan, which translates to «Holy King.» The mosque is built in a traditional Islamic style and features unique architecture that is light, airy, and elegant. The walls of the mosque are adorned with beautiful Kazakh ornaments and Arabic script, meticulously designed with attention to detail in every aspect, including patterns, colors, and decor.

Traditions and up-to-date technology

The mosque spans across 18 thousand square kilometers and has a maximum capacity of 10 thousand people. Visitors are welcomed around the clock, and inside, they can explore and discover the names of 25 prophets of Islam, as well as the most ancient and sacred books. The mosque also houses a state-of-the-art TV and radio studio.

The mihrab, a niche in the wall of the mosque decorated with an arch, indicates the direction of Mecca, and the minbar, a pulpit from which the imam delivers the Friday sermon, is located nearby. The mosque features an innovative lattice air conditioning system, similar to the one found in the Prophet's Mosque in the city of Medina, that provides a comfortable atmosphere for believers in both summer and winter.

Unique artifacts

Visitors can observe several fascinating artifacts, such as a silver Quran made up of 162 pages created at the Moscow Mint and an authentic manuscript Quran from the 12th century, which Tamerlane brought to Kazakhstan in the 14th century. The latter is an impressive book weighing 40 kilograms (88 lbs) that is kept under glass in the main hall.

Inside the mosque, there is also a souvenir shop selling Islamic paraphernalia, Arabic perfumes, clothes, hats, Islamic literature, and souvenirs for oneself and loved ones. Additionally, there is a halal cafe inside the mosque where visitors can have a peaceful and affordable meal.

At the entrance to the mosque, there are no questions asked about one's faith. The most important thing is to enter the sacred place with pure thoughts and good intentions.
