MEGA Silk Way Shopping Mall
The opening of the MEGA Silk Way shopping and entertainment center was highly anticipated by Astana residents, as media reports had been touting its impressive scale long before its debut. The mall promised an array of world-famous shops, an excellent amusement park for children, a vast cinema, and many other attractions. Indeed, visitors to the mall can now find far more than just these few highlights.
In late 2016, MEGA Silk Way opened its doors, boasting an enormous size that made it the biggest mall in Astana. The building spans three levels: two above ground and one underground, which houses a vast parking facility.
Located in a relatively new part of Astana, MEGA Silk Way is surrounded by pavilions originally built for the EXPO 2017 exhibition. These pavilions now house offices, and the area has become a prestigious residential neighborhood.
For every demographic
The mall is a shopper's paradise, with an incredible variety of stores to suit every budget located on the first and second floors. On the first floor, there is also a multifunctional space that hosts a skating rink in the winter and fairs, exhibitions, fashion shows, and concerts in the summer.
From the very beginning, MEGA Silk Way was a favorite destination for families with children. The mall features Happylon amusement park and HappyCity Park, where children could learn about different professions while playing. Children could even earn altyns, a kind of in-park currency, which they could use for rides and attractions.
Moviegoers also flock to MEGA Silk Way for its outstanding cinema, which is among the best in the country. The largest hall has a 17-meter screen, equivalent in height to a five-story building, and is located on the second floor. Additionally, visitors can find various cafes and restaurants throughout the mall.
Built with sustainability in mind
The design of MEGA Silk Way also considered energy efficiency. It was built using energy-saving glass and heat-insulating materials, and the mall's escalators featured motion sensors to reduce energy consumption. These measures contributed to a 20% reduction in energy usage. Furthermore, water conservation was a priority, with rainwater being used to irrigate the mall's lawn and trees.
In a relatively short amount of time, MEGA Silk Way had become a highly attractive destination. The mall had transformed the culture of leisure in Astana, providing residents with opportunities for productive activities such as children's educational programs, family sports, and cultural events, rather than just consumption and entertainment.
