Temir Zholy Tower

The Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) national company is a prominent organization involved in cargo and passenger transportation within Kazakhstan and abroad. Recognizing its significance, the company has established an impressive headquarters situated in a highly advantageous location. The building is strategically positioned in the heart of Astana, with Kunayev Street bustling on one side and the scenic Nurzhol Boulevard on the other.

Standing at 175 meters (574 ft), the Temir Zholy Tower held the title of the tallest building in Astana for two years until the completion of the Emerald Towers. Now the title belongs to the Abu Dhabi Plaza with its staggering 311 meters (1020 ft). The Temir Zholy Tower has an eight-story main building with two towers rising above it, standing at 37 and 40 floors respectively. These towers exhibit a unique semicircular cross-section, and their axes are intentionally offset from each other. Passages between the high-rise buildings exist on several floors. The extensive use of panoramic windows provides employees and visitors with breathtaking views of the city.

One notable aspect of the Temir Zholy Tower is its historical significance as the first building in Astana to be entirely designed and constructed by Kazakh companies. The construction of the tower faced numerous challenges from the outset. The presence of groundwater at a depth of 2.5 meters (6.6 ft) necessitated the use of 50 powerful pumps on a daily basis to maintain stability. Throughout the construction period, an estimated 66 thousand cubic meters of water were successfully pumped out, a volume equivalent to nearly 30 Olympic swimming pools.

The KTZ headquarters provides a conducive environment for productive work and the comfort of its employees. Alongside office spaces, the building includes a conference hall with a seating capacity of 760, facilitating large-scale meetings and events. Additionally, a state-of-the-art dispatch center equipped with video-satellite communication systems enables efficient monitoring of the railway line system. The premises also feature a cafe, a gym, and recreation rooms, offering amenities that promote the well-being and satisfaction of company employees.
