Town Square
The town square stands as the vibrant heart of Astana's old center. It serves as a gathering place for celebrations, festivities, and social gatherings, while also hosting an array of nearby attractions.
Throughout history, the city square has been a focal point for a wide range of events. In the Soviet era, it witnessed grand festivities, fairs, parades, and marches. As time progressed, exhibitions, festivals, and concerts became commonplace. Each year, the square becomes adorned with a New Year tree, a stage is set up, and a concert is held for the townspeople. During winter, children delight in an icy slide, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Past and Future
The city square has undergone multiple transformations over the years. In the Soviet era, it featured fountains, which were later reconstructed and eventually removed. However, in recent years, new fountains have emerged.
In 2021, the city's Urban Center unveiled an exciting new project envisioning the future appearance of the square. A complex of fountains will be created, with the highlight being a tunnel arched fountain where people can walk through a stream of jets. The entire composition will be illuminated. Adding to the allure, an art installation resembling a ball will create a mesmerizing foggy cloud effect with water. Dry fountains, where water emerges from beneath the surface and returns to an underground reservoir, will also be included.
At the heart of the square, an amphitheater will be constructed, providing a venue for diverse events. The entire square will undergo landscaping improvements, further enhancing its attractiveness for both residents and visitors to the capital.
