Tree of Life Fountain
Nestled in the heart of Astana's old city center, a square unveils its centerpiece – the Tree of Life fountain. Since its installation in 2000, this fountain has integrated itself into the fabric of the area. Crafted from a fusion of bronze and stone, the fountain takes the form of a tree, positioned within a pool. Its intricate design carries profound symbolism: the roots symbolize our connection to the underworld, our ancestors, and the past; the trunk represents the present world in which we reside; and the branches embody spirituality and the promise of future generations.
Adorning each side of the fountain are four figures: a horse, a bull, a camel, and a ram. Each animal represents an element, with the horse embodying the wind, the bull symbolizing water, the ram signifying fire, and the camel representing earth. This amalgamation of creatures adds depth to the sculptural complex, paying homage to the fundamental forces that shape our world.
During the warm seasons, the fountain square bustles with activity, drawing in crowds of visitors. The vibrant atmosphere is accentuated by the presence of numerous shops, verdant greenery, and meticulously arranged flower beds. The fountain's prime location, directly opposite the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, further contributes to its popularity. Surrounded by residential buildings, shops, and bustling business centers, this area stands as one of the most vibrant hubs within the old city center.
