Mangilik El Triumphal Arch

Experience the charm of Paris within Astana by visiting the magnificent Mangilik El Arch, an architectural marvel resembling the iconic Arch of Triomphe. This symbolic structure commemorates the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence and was inaugurated on December 16, 2011.

Designed with meticulous attention to detail, the arch follows the principles of the golden ratio, ensuring a harmonious and pleasing experience for visitors. Despite its impressive height of 20 meters (66 ft), the proportions are carefully balanced to create a comfortable environment for those in its vicinity.

Embracing the arch from all sides are niches adorned with bronze sculptures. These four statues represent diverse archetypes: a nurturing mother, a wise elder, a brave batyr (hero), and a modern soldier. Above these sculptures proudly rests the coat of arms of Kazakhstan.

Crowning the arch is a depiction of the sun, mirroring the symbol found on the national flag. This ancient symbol has long protected the Turkic peoples, radiating light, fertility, goodness, and life.

The arch's side sections are embellished with niches housing sculptures of Taikazan, which are replicas of the ritualistic cauldron found in the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi in Turkistan. Authenticity can be witnessed by visiting the original in Turkistan. Furthermore, the walls are adorned with Kazakh ornaments, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of the region.

Inside the arch, the opening reveals relief panels depicting scenes from the history of the Kazakh people. These panels showcase the tribes that have inhabited Kazakhstan throughout different eras, including the Scythians, Turks, Kipchaks, and Kazakhs. Additionally, a bas-relief displays the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The pinnacle of the arch features an observation deck, allowing visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area. The arch also houses several halls where exhibitions by Kazakhstani artists and photographers are regularly held. Access to the observation deck requires a fee.
