Kalzhan Akhun Mosque and Madrasah

The Kalzhan Akhun Mosque and Madrasah, situated in the Kyzylorda region, traces its origins to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The construction was initiated by Kalzhan Akhun, a poet, educator, and spiritual mentor.

The mosque is constructed from baked bricks. It takes on a square form, enclosing a spacious courtyard. Adorning the mosque's facade is a tablet bearing the inscription "1334 AH" (equivalent to 1913 in the Gregorian calendar). Spanning 44 x 44 meters, the entire complex includes an open terrace or iwan within the courtyard, housing a niche with a mihrab where Kalzhan Akhun finds their final resting place.

The ensemble features wooden arched gates, brick walls with windows encircling the perimeter. Noteworthy is the intricate brickwork, creating a 3D effect. A paved pathway leads to the gates, adorned with a pedestal showcasing a marble slab inscribed with Kalzhan Akhun's name.

Beyond the prayer room, the mosque accommodated a reading area, kitchen, hujra rooms (cells) for students and mentors. The institution provided religious education to children from underprivileged families.
