Mausoleum of Akshora
The mausoleum of Akshora stands 3 km (1.9 mi) away from the mausoleum of Beltoran, 47 km (29 mi) west of Fort Shevchenko in the Mangystau Region. The two mausoleums are very similar: both are made of limestone blocks and domes top both mausoleums. On the facade of the mausoleum of Akshora, you can see a decorative stone arch embellished with ornaments. According to researchers, the mausoleum dates back to the 14-16 centuries. The building is covered with rock paintings from different times.
There is a legend that explains why the mausoleum of Akshora is so similar to the mausoleum of Beltoran. These two people were allegedly lovers who could not be together. Their fathers were at enmity, but Akshora and Beltoran happened to fall in love with each other. Having learned about this, Durdy Kylysh, Akshora's father, planned to marry his daughter to a rich man. Beltoran and Akshora managed to run away, but Durdy Kylysh sent his men to chase them. Having realized that they'd been caught, Beltoran and Akshora jumped off the cliff and committed suicide.
