Aktau Embankment and Seaside Promenade
The Seaside Promenade, opened in 2018, has become one of the most popular tourist sites in Aktau. This is a 1.5 km (0.9 mi) long walking path between a sheer cliff and the sea. Along the entire promenade, there are 24 viewing platforms from where you can enjoy a stunning view of the sea.
In the evenings, the rocks are illuminated by colorful lights. Similar technology was used to illuminate Niagara Falls. When the sea is completely calm, an impressive laser show is shown.
Walking along the promenade, you can see a bronze sculpture of a mermaid. They say if you make a wish and rub her bracelet, then your wish will come true. The image of the Mermaid is derived from H.C. Andersen's fairy tale, where she became a symbol of self-sacrifice for the sake of love. There are similar sculptures in Copenhagen, Warsaw, and Crimea.
The seaside promenade will eventually lead you to the old embankment that features cafes, restaurants, street workout grounds, and children's playgrounds. Here you can just sit and relax on the benches, or rent bicycles and scooters. On summer evenings, don't miss the chance to catch an amazing sunset. In winter, the embankment houses swans, whom you can feed or take pictures of.
How to get there?
The Seaside Promenade starts in the 4th microdistrict, then runs along the territory of the Caspian Riviera Hotel, then goes around the cape, and continues to the Breeze Yacht Club.
