Mangystau Regional Museum of Local History

 

Opened in 1975 in Aktau, the museum showcases more than 50 thousand exhibits. The museum is dedicated to the nature and history of the Mangystau Region. There you can also see traditional works of art, household items, and jewelry. The museum also exhibits artifacts found during excavations of the Altyngazgan archaeological site

Mangystau Regional Museum of Local History contains several thematic halls: 

  • Wildlife of the Caspian Sea 
  • Wildlife of the Mangystau Region 
  • Archeological finds 
  • Mangystau in the 15-19th centuries 
  • Mangystau in the 20th century 
  • The 100th anniversary of the region's oil industry 
  • Modern History of Kazakhstan 
  • The Life and Work of Abish Kekilbaev (public and political figure, a writer)

Opening hours: Tuesday-Friday, from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm 

Lunchbreak: from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm 

Monday, Saturday, and Sunday are days-off
