Kogez Ethnic Village

 

Kogez ethnic village, nestled in the heart of the scenic Mangystau region, has become a hub for cultural exploration and immersive activities, particularly focusing on the traditional nomadic way of life. The ethnic village offers a range of master classes that provide insight into the unique lifestyle of nomads. These classes cover various aspects of nomadic culture, including handicrafts, traditional Kazakh dances, and folk songs. You can also witness the assembly of a yurt, a portable dwelling made from natural materials like wood, felt, wool, and leather, and even lend a hand in the process.

The village is situated at the base of the magnificent Mount Sherkala, providing a breathtaking backdrop for your stay. With approximately 15 yurts equipped with basic amenities, you can experience authentic yurt camping.

A visit to the Kogez ethnic village wouldn't be complete without savoring the delectable cuisines on offer. The on-site café serves both Kazakh and European dishes, allowing you to indulge in a culinary journey. Through the master classes, you can also learn to cook traditional dishes or engage in arts and crafts activities.

From Aktau, you can reach the Kogez ethnic village by car in about 2 hours via the A-33 and E-121 highways. After driving approximately 79 km (49 mi), turn left at the Zhetibaymunaigaz monument. Continue past Zhetibay village, through Shetpe village, and at the fork, turn right towards the school. Drive straight for about 12.2 km (7.5 mi), and you will arrive at Kogez.

Additionally, the village of Shetpe is traversed by a railway that connects Mangystau with Atyrau and Aktobe.
