Cape Tokmak

Cape Tokmak is known as an amazing place for fishing and birdwatching. Huge boulders along the Caspian coastline attract cormorants, gulls, and some species of migratory birds. People rarely visit the cape, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet there.

In ancient times, people used to live on Cape Tokmak as evidenced by the archaeological finds discovered there. Expeditions have discovered Eneolithic burials and settlements. One of the most significant finds is a tomb that dates back to the end of the 4th millennium BC. Through the years, it remained untouched and was preserved in good condition, allowing scientists to learn more about the funeral rituals of that time.

An interesting fact

In 1873, German officer G. Stumme visited Cape Tokmak with the Russian army during Khivan campaign. He wrote two books describing the nature and people of Mangystau. The book also included sketches of Kenderli Bay, Cape Tokmak, and the Senek Well. One of the books was kept in Düsseldorf, while the other was in Berlin. With the assistance of the Kazakh embassy in Germany, both books have been brought to Mangystau.
