Pavlodar is a city in northeastern Kazakhstan, located on the Irtysh River, and is the regional center of the Pavlodar region. Pavlodar acquired its name and status as a city in 1861; until then, it had been called the village of Koryakovskaya. The city itself is quite small in area, but in spite of this it ranks 7th in Kazakhstan in terms of population: 332 thousand people live here. Pavlodar is famous for its embankment on the Irtysh River, which has no analogs in Kazakhstan: this embankment is the longest in the republic (over 6 km).
An interesting fact is that the city is located quite close to the border with Russia. Because of this to get to some Russian cities (Rubtsovsk, Omsk) is closer and faster than getting to many nearby cities in Kazakhstan. The Kazakhstani cities closest to Pavlodar include Ekibastuz, Semey, Temirtau, Karaganda, and Nur-Sultan.
Pavlodar is rightfully called one of the industrial centers of Kazakhstan. A large number of strategically important industrial facilities are located here: petrochemical plant, pipe rolling plant, aluminum plant, machine-building plant, and many others.
